2007 HOMICIDES

Deandre Allen, 18

1/1/07 - Allen was the victim of a fatal shooting after he was shot in the face while sitting in a parked car in the 3200 block of Gale Avenue. Bryce Lowder, 18, was arrested and charged with 2 Counts of First Degree Murder. On 9/20/07, Lowder was sentenced to 40 years in prison for Allen's death, Peoria County Case 07-CF-22.

Virginia Mallow, 72

1/13/07 - Mallow was found dead in her home in the 400 blk of W. Doubet Court, the victim of strangulation. Shane Heuck, 30, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder and Residential Burglary for Mallow's death. He is currently awaiting trial, Peoria County Case 07-CF-60. If convicted, Heuck could receive the death penalty.

Dominique Alexander, 16

1/25/07 - Alexander was the victim of a fatal shooting after he was shot in the head by a teen playing with a gun. Xavier Young, 16, is charged with murder for Alexander's death. On 2/21/08, Young plead guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter and was sentenced 2/25/08 to 180 days in jail. Peoria County Case 07-CF-105.

David McCreary, 35

1/26/07 - McCreary was the victim of a homicide after being shot multiple times when he answered the door at a home in the 2500 block of W. Marquette Street. Demarco Spencer, 25, Gabriel Shelton, 21 and Jackie Williams, Jr, 21 have been arrested and charged with Murder. The trio is awaiting trial, Peoria County Case 07-CF-111. On 2/15/08 at the conclusion of his jury trial, Demarco Spencer was found Guilty of First Degree Murder. He was sentenced to 44 years in prison. Shelton and Williams were both found guilty after separate jury trials. They are awaiting sentencing. A fourth defendant, Katisha Warfield, plead Guilty 10/31/07 for her role in McCreary's death. She received 12 years in prison.

Tamara Gregory, 42

4/6/07 - Gregory was the victim of a homicide after being shot once in the chest while inside her home in the 2600 block of W. Nebraska Avenue. No arrests have been made for her murder.

Anthony D. Hart, 32

4/17/07 - Hart was the victim of a homicide after being stabbed numerous times while in the 700 block of East Lasalle Street. Police report that Hart had been in a vehicle prior to being stabbed. The stabbing may have occurred as a result of a dispute between Hart and another individual. On 4/19/07 Brandon Crabb was arrested and ultimately charged with two counts of First Degree Murder. On 12/19/07 Crabb was convicted of two counts of First Degree Murder. On 3/6/08, Crabb was sentenced to 50 years in the Department of Corrections, Peoria County Case 07-CF-458.

Dequarrius Sims, 17

4/22/07 - Sims was the victim of a homicide after being gunned down in the Harrison Homes. There are no available details regarding his murder and no arrests have been made.

Carlyts Bovan, 22

4/27/07 - Bovan was the victim of a homicide after being shot multiple times near the intersection of Garden and Stanley on the city's southside. His body was discovered in the middle of the intersection. On May 17, 2007, Anthony Pelts, 24, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder for Bovan's death. There are no available details regarding motive. On 5/27/08 a Jury Trial was held. On 5/29/08, the trial concluded and Pelts was found GUILTY of First Degree Murder. He faces 20-60 years in prison. Montral Fleming, 29

6/5/07 - Fleming was the victim of a homicide after being fatally stabbed by his girlfriend Tewkunzi Green, 25, while inside their home at 1517 S. Livingston Street. The stabbing reportedly stemmed from an argument over money. Fleming died early the next morning while in surgery. Green was arrested 6/6/07and charged with First Degree Murder, Peoria County Case 07-CF-625. Her bond is set at 1 million dollars. Green is currently awaiting trial.

Ronald Lewis, Jr, 17

6/16/07 - Lewis was the victim of a homicide after being shot to death while in the 200 block of Green Street. 6/18/07, Charlie Alexander, 25, was arrested on gun charges relating to the murder. He has not been charged with murder. On 10/12/07 Charlie Alexander was found GUILTY of gun charges. On 12/20/07 he was sentenced to 49 years in prison; 25 years for Agg Discharge of a Firearm, 14 years for Agg Unlawful Use of a Weapon and 10 years for Unlawful Poss Weapon by a Felon: Peoria County Case 07-CF-673.

James Vaughn, 51

6/20/07 - Vaughn was the victim of a homicide after being beaten to death. His body was discovered in the backyard of a home in the 100 block of N. Charlton Street. Earl Marshall, 27, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. On 1/17/08, Marshall Plead Guilty to First Degree Murder. He is awaiting sentencing 6/23/08; Peoria County Case 07-CF-678.

Sylvester Polnitz, 35

6/23/07- Polnitz was the victim of a homicide after being stabbed to death. Polnitz was found by police in an alley in the 1400 block of NE Jefferson. He later died as a result of his injuries. 6/24/07 David Alexander, 44, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder after turning himself in to police; Peoria County Case 07-CF-697. On 10/3/07 Alexander was found Guilty of First Degree Murder. On 11/29/07, Alexander was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Katrina Kelley, 26

7/14/07 - Kelley was the victim of a homicide after being struck by a cement block early Saturday morning. Kelley was the passenger in a vehicle traveling on I-74 when a cement block was thrown from the Broadway Street overpass. The cement block crashed through the windshield of the vehicle, striking Kelley in the chest. Kelley later died as a result of her injuries. 7/20/07, 15 year old Rakiem Campbell was in custody charged with First Degree Murder and Vehicular Endangerment for throwing the cement block off the overpass. On 10/15/07 Rakiem Campbell plead GUILTY to Vehicular Endangerment and recieved 15 years in prison.

Jonathan Allen, 21

8/9/07 - Allen was the victim of a homicide after receiving a gunshot wound to the head. He was found in the 2800 block of Krause Street. He died hours later after being taken to an area hospital. No additional information is available regarding his death.

Robert M. Cotton, 38

10/1/07 - Cotton was the victim of a homicide after being gunned down while in his home in the 1200 block of Kansas. Cotton was shot multiple times in the early morning hours of 10/1/07. A female occupant also sustained gunshot wounds, she is expected to live. No additional information is available regarding this shooting. No arrests have been made. The case remains under investigation.

Hung Tien, 68

11/26/07 - Tien was the victim of a homicide after being fatally beaten in his home in the 1600 block of N. Douglas Street in Peoria. Tien was found deceased in his home by relatives in the early morning hours of 11/26/07. Police are investigating Tien's murder as possibly being the result of a home invasion. 1/31/08 - Allen Brown was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder for Tien's murder. He is currently awaiting trial. Peoria County Case 08-CF-124.

Aaron Jowers, 28

12/11/07 - Jowers was the victim of a homicide after being fatally shot several times. His body was discovered in a parked car in the 1000 block of W. Fourth Street. No arrests have been made. The case is still under police investigation.

James L. Curtis, 60

6/7/07 - Curtis' body was discovered near a stairwell behind a building in the 700 block of SW Adams. His death was initially ruled accidental. However, on 4/18/08, Benjamin B. Howard, 26, turned himself in to police claiming that he had killed Curtis. Howard is being held in the Peoria County Jail on one count of First Degree Murder, bond $500,000.
