Case No. 07-CF-60

SHANE L. HEUCK, 30
CASE SYNOPSIS: On January 13, 2007, a relative went to the home of Virginia Mallow in the 400 block of W. Doubet Court and discovered Mallow's lifeless body. Shane Heuck, 30, has been held in the Peoria County Jail since January 14, 2007 on a $2,000,000 bond after his arrest for her murder. Heuck, who had done handyman work for Mallow, was arrested and charged with four counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Residential Burglary. Heuck had broken into Mallow's home while she slept, cut the phone line of the home, awakened her and ultimately strangled her. The circumstances of the murder allow for the death penalty as Heuck was committing Residential Burglary when the murder occurred. State's Attorney Kevin Lyons determined that Heuck will face capital murder charges for his heinous actions.
CASE UPDATE: State's Attorney Kevin Lyons and First Assistant Nancy Mermelstein will prosecute the case.
6/20/08 - Shane Heuck plead guilty to one count of First Degree Murder. As part of the plea agreement, the other three counts of First Degree Murder and the Residential Burglary charge were dismissed. He will not face the death penalty. Shane Heuck will spend the next 55 years in prison.
